Handicapping The Slam Dunk Contest

Today is All-Star Saturday, which means we get to watch the 3-point shootout, skills competition, and most importantly the slam dunk contest. The All-Star festivities and the game itself are largely glorified, but its still a spectacle to watch nonetheless. The slam dunk competition has lost a lot of its appeal in recent years, but its still one of the coolest All-Star events of any sport around. This year the contestants are defending champion Gerald Green, Dwight Howard, rookie Jamario Moon, and Rudy Gay. Here's a look at each players top 10 dunks, courtesy of YouTube and NBA TV.

Gerald Green

Dwight Howard

Rudy Gay

Jamario Moon

For my pick, I'm gonna have to go with Rudy Gay. Dwight Howard wants to win this thing bad, and will probably have something phenomenal planned, but his height is a big disadvantage. Gay can jump out of the building, and will dazzle the crowd. Even though he's a relatively tall 6-9, two inches shorter than Howard, his height won't hurt him as much.

3-Point Shootout: Daniel Gibson (Did you see him at the Rookie Challenge last night? This kid is hot, and will pull the upset)

Skills Challenge: Chris Paul denies D-Wade his 3rd straight title in this event

Nan man, Dwight is gonna dunk the hell out of it, just judging by what he's been practicing:

That last dunk is absolutely sick.

Dwight Howard = awesome

Holy cow, what a performance. The tap with the left hand off the backward was absolutely ridiculous.

What a great night for the dunk contest.
