Does Joey Dorsey Know Something We Don't?

On the first day of the NBA pre-draft camp, former Memphis power forward Joey Dorsey was hoping to make headlines for his wonderful play. Mostly known as a one-dimensional type with a large frame that can play defense and rebound, Dorsey seems at best only a Ben Wallace-type player. In fact, the two even share a slight resemblance.

At the camp, Dorsey believes he has plenty to show scouts, including a reliable jump shot, an ability to put the ball on the floor, and even a smooth passing touch. With regards to the Ben Wallace comparisons, the 6-9 forward believes he's "a way better scorer." His college resume doesn't support that; he was only the sixth leading scorer for the Memphis Tigers in his senior season, and scored a measly six points in two games at the Final Four.

In fact, Dorsey's claim to fame is probably a skirmish he had with a fan after a heated game against UAB in February. A fan badgered Dorsey for his troubled past for his past discretions in assault, and he promptly responded by going straight at him in the middle of the student section. That incident was just another reason to question the guy's character.

When it came time to make noise with his play, the beastly Dorsey instead shocked us all by giving the scoop about one of the NBA's most hotly contested debates. The hot topic surrounding June's Draft has been the dilemma concerning Chicago's top overall pick. At the moment, it seems nearly 50/50 between Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley. Each have their reasons to be drafted, and it appears that GM John Paxson has no idea who he wants. According to Dorsey, however, that topic of conversation has already been squashed.

Dorsey proclaimed to draft scouts that he's "got the inside" and that Beasley would be the one the Bulls would take with the top overall pick. He wouldn't reveal his sources or elaborate on the topic any further, but was assertive in his claim that the point guard that led him to the National Championship Game would fall to the Miami Heat at number two instead.

Even with a supposed "inside source," this is a ridiculous statement. Both Chicago GM John Paxson and Miami GM Randy Pfund vehemently deny that they have made their decision yet. With a little under a month left until they actually have to decide, there's no reason that the two most disappointing teams in the Eastern Conference should already know who they will pick. Dorsey needs to spend more of his time trying to work his way into the first round instead of making guarantees about something he knows nothing about.

I believe the reason Joey reacted at UAB was not just due to what was being said ( not just about his past but also many racist comments), but also because the Tiger players were being spit on and getting things like glass bottles thrown at them. You're an idiot.

Please try to get your facts straight before giving your opinion. Joey Dorsey was not involved with any fans in any altercations at any game. The UAB game was a near riot as you can see for yourself. Pierre Niles is the only Tiger player to have contact with a UAB fan during the altercation. As you can see from the video no Tiger player went into the student section, but rather the student section came onto the floor. Before you slander someones reputation you should check your facts.

BTW Joey's source from the Heat would probably be Pat Riley who sat behind the Memphis bench on several occasions to watch Rose play, and has talked on record about how much they want him.

Joey Dorsey didn't go after a fan as you claim. He is a likeable guy...unlike yourself...next time do some research before you spout lies about somebody on the internet. If you took any time to truly get to know Joey Dorsey or actually interview him, you would be reporting on what a nice young man he is is instead of this garbage. He is big and black so continue on with your stereotype...moron

I do believe that whole UAB deal was not Memphis' fault at all from what I could see at a distance. I think they were unfairly treated in that instance, Dorsey included. He didn't do much for me when he challenged Greg Oden and then showed up small last March, and he certainly doesn't have any inside scoop on what an NBA franchise is going to do come Draft Day, but I'll reserve judgement on whether or not he'll be a talent at the next level until I see him there.
